The party was at the Quail Lodge Golf Club in Carmel Valley, California. It started at 5:30. Doris came at 6:30 and stayed until after 11:00. The menu was a nice salad with a choice of either butternut squash ravioli or chicken breast. And of course, the birthday cake was lemon.
It was mainly a fundraiser for the Doris Day Animal Foundation. There was a silent auction before the dinner and a nice roughly 45 minute tribute to Doris’ career. There were tables of about 10 people each. Every table was named after one of Doris’ dogs. I sat at ‘Katie’. There were Doozy, Beau, Daisy, etc. As for the people that attended - since it was announced Doris would not be attending - were mostly Carmelites. There were Doris fans dispersed all around the room. Since the party was so big, no, it wasn’t the same crowd as last year. There was actually no party last year. This was the first time Doris did anything with her fans since I believe 1993 at the Quail Lodge. Because it was a formal party (cocktail attire), there were no animals. The animals were the stars of the party the next day - they starred in a fashion show at the Cypress Inn!
